New Pricing and Specs bump: MacBook Pro retina display & MacBook Air (early 2015) – Malaysia

Apart from Apple TV new pricing and official availability of Apple Watch coming April, Apple also announced a new pricing and specs bump for 13″ MacBook Pro Retina display, 11″ MacBook Air and 13″ MacBook Air.

The new 13″ MacBook Pro retina display starts at RM4499, RM5199 and RM6199. You get new and faster RAM (1866MHz LPDDR3), new generation Intel processor chip (Broadwell-U), faster SSD and newer graphic chip (Intel Iris Graphics 6100). You will have to wait till mid April for this unit to shipped.

I’m pretty excited that Force Touch trackpad make it’s way to MacBook Pro retina display. I think the next version of all Mac products will have Force Touch trackpad.

Personally, I love Apple trackpad. I never use a mice with my MacBook, trackpad eliminate the use of a mice with multi gestures and its work super well.

The other thing that I never use on my MacBook was the trackpad physical click (secondary click or right click). I tap with two fingers to bring up the right click menu and I have been doing that since OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard. (I can’t remember which version).

Force Touch makes sense and I love what Apple did here. I know I’m going to enjoy this feature along with the super awesome gestures.

Too bad, Apple didn’t bring the new keyboard to MacBook Pro retina display and MacBook Air though.

MacBook Air early 2015

The new 11″ MacBook Air starts at RM3199 and RM3799, while the 13″ MacBook Air start at RM3499 and 4199. You get new and faster generation Intel processor chip (Broadwell-U), newer graphic chip (Intel HD Graphics 6000) and faster SSD.

iFixit point out that the SSD on the 13″ MacBook Air is twice as fast as in 11″ MacBook Air. If you are looking for the best SSD on MacBook Air, go for the 13″ MacBook Air.

  1. The new Macbook (2015, Core M) is a fanless design, so it will not generate much heat and zero wind noise.
The new Macbook pro Early 2015, the processor is newer and more efficient, shouldn’t generate too much heat either but it’s better to wait for a more in-depth review.

    • I am checking out the review online. It’s an expensive machine, it’s worth to do more survey. It’s a bummer that the price was RM300 more than the previous version though. Apple had historically retained old price point with the new internal spec upgrade. As soon as GST in force next month, this purchase would seem too expensive and way over budget for me.

My MacBook (Late 2008) still doing well. ‘m surprised I never had any needs for higher clock speed. I have the reason to believe, even MacBook Air 11″ would serve my needs. Still considering.

    • I want a laptop that doesn’t generate too much heat and or fan kicked in. Not sure where can I find one, maybe now we have the new MacBook. That even way under power.
