This modem is awful, painfully slow. If you have nothing better than this, I guess you will have to find your Zen, I’m afraid you will vomit blood. Long story short, get a real Wireless N modem with two antennas.

My Quick Review – TM/innacomm Wireless G Modem

These are the unboxing photos. It was actually beautiful to look at. The orange TM’s color was bright enough to remind you that this is a TM (Telekom Malaysia) property.

If you are not using TM modem but you were given one, you must keep it safe. In case if you are upgrading your Streamyx speed TM required the old modem to be returned.[

The Modem

I like the cheap plastic that looks like an aluminum casing. The cable provided was equally beautiful. If you are looking for somewhat “round corner” and everything just “round” – Steve Jobs obsession, you found it here.

innacomm is Apple fanboy!

Starting up the modem

The painful booting, red light, white light flashing, is awfully slow. You can doze off if you do not have enough sleep prior to setting up this modem. Make sure you have enough sleep and have patience. Don’t believe me? Please watch the video I painfully recorded just to prove the point.

Setting up the modem

Login to this modem is awful, painfully hard. Most modems simply use admin/admin but this sucker is not that easy. “Easy” mean you can’t be lazy. You have to get the last four (4) digit of the Mac address as a password. Can be found on the modem.

Signal Strength

I can’t get a good connection in my room compare to D-Link DSL 2750U. The reason why this modem is “super” weak is probably due to the antenna-less design. You get the same frustration when your Smartphone decided to drop the call for no apparent reason.

Not recommending this modem to anyone – simply a piece of crap
I really can’t recommend this modem to anyone. If you wish to have a table lamp at night, this modem is pretty good. The light indicators are so bright it shines the way to my kitchen when all light is out.

  1. I have recently been actively tweaking this modem trying to get better throughput and to some extend it worked. However one thing i notice, and can’t find a fix around it is the CPU usage load.

Often times, when it hits 60% (max it’ll go) and if it constantly stay there for a couple more screen refreshed, you will notice performance starts to degrade.
This leads to slow access to the service screen (192.168.1.1) and eventually requiring restart.

Anyone know how to overcome this? Turning off security authentication helps but still CPU usage still at times peaked although less often.

  2. Can anyone let me know what’s the user id And password for this tm router, I reset my router and but now cant log in because I forgot the user and password

  3. I just checkout the TP-W8980 at the shop. Damn this is a beast! I really want to have it. The design was really beautiful too.

  4. Yesterday I went to TM for modem/router replacement. They told me I have to buy one exactly like in the photo for RM150 cos my old Innacomm W3100 is already 2 years old and that is the lifespan of any modem. I left with disappointment and visited the computer shops. They are selling full range of broadband products. After carefully selecting, I get this result.

TP Link is a cheaper and better brand for broadband solution. Remember to look for ADSL 2+ modem and Gigabit Router when choosing the product. Standard Wireless N Gigabit router gives up to 300Mbps of data transfer. TP-W8980 is selling for only Rm210, with ADSL 2+ modem and dual band system – standard 2.4G and 5G bandwidths. Most new handheld electronics today utilise 5G bandwidth. It also comes with 2 USB sharings that can be used as printer server, external hard disk server for DLNA media sharing / as a media server, or even FTP server. The LAN router supports up to 1GBps.

TM Innacomm w7100n can never come close to TP-W8980 in term of price, performance and specification.

    • I totally agree with you Jollybee78!

For extra RM60 I rather get your modem. TM’s modem is useless. I haven’t been really using my 2Mbps streamyx line at home because the modem speed is slow and drop line very often.

Thanks for your sharing. A very good one!

      Thank you

    • Jollybee78, may I know where did you get get the TP W8980? You sure not because you are leng lui or something they give you a very good price? hahaha

I just check with my friend, your price is really cheap. I can only get it for 290 here.

  5. Time to invest in Linksys, bro. The best modem and router I ever had.
I still have my WRT54GL up and running strong, and fully customisable. 😉

  6. I wonder what chips they put inside to make booting slow, it can drop connection in case of heavy traffic i expect too..
The look is nice, but not as nice as the cutie bear entertaining you while modem is booting. And.. you got a great night light 🙂
Sadly wireless-G is sux without good antennas, i expect internal one is something like 2 dbi, i ve used 7 dbi external antenna for G but your TMbox doesnt seem to have a external antenna plughole.

    • I really don’t like this modem. Pity my D-Link DSL 2750U died 🙁

hehehe that cutie bear is belong to my daughter 😀

    • I’m interested with the modern modem…I think they have got a processor or RAM with the unit. Pretty crazy and geeky!

I wish There’s pinhole so I can screw one in hahaha
