Apple Mail Flying

Disable Mail on iCloud Slow Down System Log Out

Issue: Mail application has taken forever to close during Log Out/Shut Down, Force Quit to force mail to close.

I have had this issue with Apple Mail application for some time on my Mountain Lion. I don’t normally have the need to log out or shut down my MacBook, some time I never restarts my MacBook for months and months. (Perks being a Mac user?)

I try to log out my user account today and few times over the pass months and I notice my Mail just isn’t cooperative enough to close. I have no choice but to force quit the app.

I remember however, I have disabled Mail from iCloud recently. I simply have too many email accounts and decided iCloud.com is just a redundant email account I don’t need. Though it may be cool but it has become a nuisance when I accidentally replied an email with iCloud.com instead of using my official work email.

iCloud Setting

What do you know? Enable Mail on iCloud setting, everything back to normal. I am sure this is not a coincidence; I mean Apple will never force you to use iCloud.com right?

Bro! I have the same issue lately and I have Mail enabled in iCloud all the time. I don’t know what happened, but in the beginning of Mountain Lion everything was fine. Now I can hardly shut down my iMac, if I don’t force quit mail. Must be like this for about 2-3 weeks, I don’t know. I usually shut down my computer before sleep and this is a bit annoying. I need to investigate about this.

Bro, thanks for the comment. I thought I was alone in this. Looks like I am not. How many emails you have set up in your mail? (Just curious)

I don’t normally shut down my MacBook because the system handled system waking up from sleep efficiently, like instantly. Also, what I like about my MacBook is that it didn’t drain the battery that much even if I did not shut it down.

If I have an iMac, I would probably shut it down. I carry that routine from Windows PC. (Laugh) I do not want the system to keep on forever too.

Including iCloud address, which I seldom use, it’s 6 🙂
