Good news! First 300 customers get Galaxy S 2 for RM799. Maxis are about to launch the follow up of their successful Galaxy S i9000 coming this 22nd Jun 2011 with their much anticipated successor Samsung Galaxy S 2 i9100.

How much does the specification fair against Galaxy S 1 and Apple iPhone 4?

3 main attractive offering

RAM & Processor

Samsung Galaxy S 2 specs won hand down in this comparison! In comparison with the rest of the Android phone out there, Galaxy S 2 i9100 is simply mind blowing! If you’re a geek, you know you just can’t wait to have your hand on the 1 GB of RAM and 1.2GHz dual-core processing power.

Is Androids ready for dual-core processor? The very powerful hardware can be just as disadvantage if software like Android Apps are not fully harvesting the power of dual-core.

Data

Spotting new level of play field 21Mbps. Presently 4Mbps is a pain in the neck for our telco to make it available for everyone in Malaysia and a speed that up to 21Mbps is remarkably harder for every single Malaysian to enjoy, at least not in 2011. 21Mbps is a welcome addition to make us feel geeky!

Super AMOLED Plus

4.3 inches display and couple with the latest version Super AMOLED Plus I think this phone is as sharp as the eyes of a fox! I sure you will be very please with the color. I have Galaxy S i9000 and I know when black is black and not grey!

and a little something that put me off was the…

Weight

The lightweight of this phone is compliment by the plastic material use in Galaxy S 2. If you want something as solid as iPhone 4 I think you probably would slightly disappointed but if weight is all you care, you will be super happy with the feather light of this phone.

Personally I don’t like too much plastic on my gadget. It makes my purchase feels cheap.

Price

The asking retail price of RM2099 will not put off any Samsung fans in fact this phone would be just another successful Android phone.

  1. android is based on linux,so its fully supports as many cores as you can imagine.
dont worry, however its up to software to parallel itself on multiple cores, android is using bionic libc, its capable of handling multiple threaded apps, android NDK supports (with some issues) OpenMP specs, and dalvik java machine works with multiple threads/cores too,
performance critical apps most likely will reuse multiple cores, those which are not demanding high power may use single thread, its up to the software author(s)

btw, buying from HTC means feeding Microsoft, they prey on -so-called-patent-issues-
their income from android fees is even higher than the income from their own Windows mobile ( $5 per HTC android phone )

you can check this link – http://www.whatmobile.net/2011/06/android-dual-core-smartphone-comparisons/

    dual core smartphones benchmarks

    • The benchmark really impressive at 2974 it beat the hell out of the rest. I will include this type of benchmark in the future very useful.

    • Btw, what fees was Microsoft charging? didn’t know about that before. My friend happen to have iPhone 1 and when I look at the back of the phone… HTC seem to clone that! hahahah

      • HTC was sued by Microsoft about -so-called-linux-and-android-issues-that-conflict-with-microsoft-patents- (they actually never disclosed publicly which patents exactly, but they periodically sue some vendors to pay them, like HTC, like TomTom (Network-Attached-Storage hardware vendor). With TomTom the matter been about VFAT filesystem (FAT16 or 32 with LFN), with HTC it is not very clear why MS sued HTC and not tried to sue others. Maybe they choose the weakest (who dont have a significant patent pool to sue back), so they can`t sue Google (Android vendor). Actually now Oracle trying to claim 1-6 billion $ from Google because of 6 (six) pages of code which has been found common with Sun Java and Dalvik (Oracle aquired Sun for $6 billion)

i think you’ll like this scheme of patent claims, the scorpions bite each other.

  2. I played with Galaxy and I have to say it’s a strong competition to iPhone. The camera is very good. But I still love my new iPhone. I asked Lily to consider Galaxy in the future, but she feels she needs to support Taiwan and buy HTC 😛

    • Your wife very patriotic and thats good! we all should be like that ahahaha for now Malaysia dont have any phone that I feel proud so I support US for now LOL
