Retina Display

For those of you hoping for new 17″ MacBook Pro, Apple have decided not to sell 17″ screen and replace it with 15″ MacBook Pro Retina Display instead.

I was excited when I first heard the rumors from 9to5mac, that a MacBook Pro with Retina Display is coming. I was still excited when Apple announced it, later on, I thought 15″ is too much for me to carry around and the price, was not inexpensive either. I was again excited when I finally see the real thing.

How Ivy Bridge Processor with Turbo Boost benefit you?

MacBook Pro Air Core i7I would conveniently relate Turbo Boost as overclocking (OC). Intel use the term, “Turbo Boost” to package their processors and sell it as marketing preach. I assume Intel making overclocking on Ivy Bridge much more convenience and safer, compare to the traditional overclocking on desktop PC.

You will be benefited with the higher processor clock, perhaps that’s the real reason why Apple redesign the fan blade (asymmetrical fan) to manage the heats.

Ivy Bridge is a 22nm die shrink, a super high-tech technology in the world. I truly appreciate such a powerful stuff seated inside a mobo.

How does Ivy Bridge benefited you? If you’re buying MacBook Air, you will notice it’s only running on a Core i5 1.7GHz, 1.8GHz respectively. With Turbo Boost, you’re now able to enjoy higher clock speed of 2.6GHz and 2.8GHz for your games, video processing, audio decoding and etc.

Compared to Sandy Bridge:
5% to 15% increase in CPU performance
25% to 68% increase in integrated GPU performance

The conclusion, Turbo Boost on Ivy Bridge really do three things. One, save cost for consumer, Two, good business for Intel (lower price) and three, longer battery life (when system don’t need higher clock, lower clock speed do not drawn too much power) it really is a total package you will enjoy.

How USB 3 benefit you?

I think the best wish list we ever wanted on MacBook, really is the USB3 support. Apple truly do it again! I love how the USB port can magically switch between USB 3 and 2. Now, if you plug in USB 3 supported devices, it just work. Simply awesome.

When is the right time to buy Apple MacBook?

Awesome question! If you’re not in a hurry and you’re an Apple customer from Asia, please do wait for “ The Special One-Day Apple Shopping Event 2013“. It happen for the last two years, and I assume, it will happen again this year. Other than that, there’s no best time than now.

I love the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina Display, I think I’m gonna go with MacBook Air 13” this year.

  1. Bought the new macbook pro with retina display 2 weeks ago. Apparently apple is in short supply of the new macbooks and i’ll have to wait for up to a month for it to arrive.

    • Jason, Hi! 2 weeks is a long time but don’t worry, it will be here 🙂 can’t wait to hold it, right? I decided on the Air, can’t wait for another 6 month.

      • You can be sure that i can’t wait to get my hands on it. =) What do you mean by waiting for another 6 months? Will there be a new release?

        • Normally at around Jan/Feb (before CNY), Apple will throw 1 day special shopping discount on all Apple products. Discount can be up to RM300 cheaper for all MacBook. 😀
