iPhone sapphire crystal home button

My bro Ninoart aka MKL tweet me a juicy rumor about iPhone sapphire crystal story this evening, my immediate responds was “Plausible”

The news was picked up by Cult of Mac writer Killian Bell immediately.

The iPhone 5S could come with a sapphire crystal capacitive touch home button that incorporates a new fingerprint sensor, according to supply chain sources in Taiwan.

iPhone 5S To Get Sapphire Crystal Home Button With Fingerprint Sensor [Rumor] (Cult Of Mac)

Apple acquired the maker of fingerprint sensor chips, AuthenTec last year. The news ignited many rumors of how the technology will be used in Apple products.

I really do not see all the hype with fingerprint sensor technology on a gadget. The fact that Windows PC with fingerprint censor never filled me with awe, the technology remains not for the general consumer in my opinion.

To me fingerprint sensor is not a cool thing but more of a geeky thing.

Perhaps Apple has better use of this technology on Apple products like iPhone home button. Turning the home button as a fingerprint scanner in turn it can be used to authenticate user identity for payment or unlock iPhone, this can be a cool and useable factor for consumers.

Fingerprint sensor and sapphire crystal sound like a winning formula but doesn’t it come with high a cost? I think Apple is completing the “Gem Saga” on the iPhone and I can’t wait.

Thank you to my Bro Ninoart for the tip. You can follow him on Twitter.
