The hot pisang goreng is finally confirmed by Apple! iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c to be in store in Malaysia October 25. The colorful iPhone 5c come in five colors (blue, green, yellow, pink and white) and iPhone 5s in three colors (space gray, gold and silver).

iPhone 5c

I am really not sure how the Malaysian market would react to the new iPhone 5c. If Apple agreed to a very attractive pricing, off-contract in Malaysia, I can see many young Malaysian would buy iPhone 5c in no time judging from the huge prepaid market. However, the price in US for 16GB and 32GB were between RM1756.80 and RM2076.80 respectively (RM3.2 conversion rate).

To make the retail pricing seem attractive for the iPhone 5c, I assume it would be priced at RM1699 and RM1999 in Malaysia. At these prices, I assume buying off-contract may not be so attractive after all. On the side of subsidy however, this is HUGE! Imagine if Maxis, Celcom and Digi offers 12-months contract at RM1300 for 16GB model?

As always the prepaid market doesn’t get the love that much. Maybe iPhone 5c will address this market segment in Malaysia. Will we see.

iPhone 5s

Will iPhone 5s sold out in the first day in Malaysia? I can’t wait. My gut feeling told me it will sell out quicker than the pisang goreng turning golden brown in a wok.

A7 chip with 64-bit architecture on iPhone 5s seem to be like a gimmick as noted by many tech journalists. I have different thoughts on this. The new iPhone 5s come with a slow-Mo video capturing and an ability to take photos in burst mode, these features requires a fast and a hungry horse power to process all the photos and video shots.

Apple intention is to take advantage of future 64-bit architecture to power the current Slow-Mo and Bust mode feature while slowly building the future full 64-bit iPhone. (Maybe iPhone 6?)

Maybe next year today, we would see the mobile industry scrambling to have 64-bit phone but Apple, Apple already there today. I won’t worry about 64-bit architecture being a gimmick when it actually not.

I am looking forward to see Malaysian enjoying their first Slow-Mo video shot!
