KIES software isn’t very friendly with Vista and XP.
If you have problem installing, I assume you are using these operating system?
I tried to install KIES on Vista and XP but to little avail. I understand that Samsung website indicate the software is compatible to Vista & XP but in real life use it doesn’t seem like it.
Samsung Galaxy S Phone Working on Windows 7 32-bit
KIES Getting Started
- Always download the latest copy of KIES from Samsung Website, follow the download site for your country only.
- Download for country: Malaysia
- Install KIES software and make sure during installation select only your country. Samsung updates are in stages, you only interested to install updates for your own region only.
Connecting GT-i9000 Samsung Galaxy S to KIES
- To make things easy, turn your phone “off” and take out your external memory card than turn it back “on”.
- Please make sure no mobile apps are running on your phone when it backs “on”.
- Open your KIES software and once it fully started, plug in your phone with the USB cable.
- KIES will now start detect your phone and install (1) Samsung Android USB Composite Device (2) Samsung Android USB Modem and lastly (3) MTP USB Device which is the most important component.
Trouble Shooting KIES
- If you still see error, please repeat step 1 & 2 above. Restart KIES and your phone before you try to plug in your USB cable again.
- Make sure your copy of Windows Vista & XP are updated to the latest version. KIES need the latest software from Microsoft. If you are using pirated copy, chances are some software needed to run was not installed on your system.
- .Net Framework 3.5 is required for Windows XP(32/64bit), Vista(32/64bit) to install Samsung Kies. (.Net Framework 4 is also available at Microsoft)
- Windows Media Player 10 or later
- ActiveSync(Windows XP)
- Device Center (Windows Vista)
- DirectX 9.0C
I hope this help and may your KIES connect to your Samsung Galaxy S soon!

great :)) work for me.. good job
Great that it works for you 🙂 it’s an old post.
I don’t use fix lag. never tried it before. Since the phone upgraded to 2.2 the phone runs very smoothly and I don’t think I need it.
I’ll check it out and perhaps I will write about it.
Personal experience I think iOS is still smoother operation and snappier.
cos i try using 3 bottom i cant go to download mode i have use ur method..then i see got one method but i cant use it i din have de tool…resistor…and they are using de 3rd method tat wat jdr box thing using computer de….cos i going to centre ma…T.T….then u know how to do de fix lag for i9000 ? i mean voodoo de
walao go to service centre need pay RM200…shit de….now recovery le…
Not cheap! Good news you got your phone working.
Did you get to see how they do it? RM200 is super expensive for something we also can do with the proper tool.
my phone cant cant b open…cos whn i wanna recovery it then suddenly house no electricity…then now wat can i do ? email me as soon as possible…
Wow tough luck buddy. I hope you didn’t bricked your phone!
I’m not sure if this will work but I hope you still can boot your phone in download mode.
Try boot your phone to download mode>>
press vol. down + menukey + power on until the yellow screen pops up
than connect your phone to your PC again to reinstall from KIES.
If this doesn’t worked you can try to visit some Android websites the keywords is “bricked”
Also please make sure you take out your battery for at least 15minutes before you try to boot into “download mode”. Make sure you take out all your cards if you’re still on Androids version 2.1 and below. (Android 2.2 are more stable)
Good luck!
mine now is 2.2…and kies got 2.3 then i dl then no electric then cant recovery then now screen just black out…T.T then all my data inside all msg thing contact all will b lost?
>i dl then no electric
it happens. If you care about content/data , then its probably will be better to contact customer service, than trying yourself.
The data should be still in KIES if you follow the steps to backup data before upgrade otherwise yes, too bad you have to lose your data. Unless ofcoz some miracle happen you still can boot the phone.
Were you halfway downloading or half way upgrading? if halfway downloading and you bricked your phone than Android still have a long way to improved.
I guess Android is the only OS that needed the handset to plugin/ connected (at all time) to KIES during firmware/OS downloading which is kinda sucks!
iOS have the luxury to download the whole content before the upgrading process begins.
Tomorrow’s monday and I hope the guys at the service centre can help you to rescue your phone. hopefully when you walk in to the shop they will not tell 1) they don’t know what to do 2) your warranty is void.
Keep us updates and so sorry for the trouble you’re in.
Cheers
mean if duno what to do then my phone can b throw away ?wat de ? hahhaaha…..then hope will b ok o….tomorrow i try walk to centre see how o ~

Alright ou settled for ‘The Jongle’ so can hear Jongle Bell Jongle Bell end of the year. Thanks for sharing the Samsung Galaxy thingy though not sure what is going on told you before Bananaz is ID 10 T in hight tech stuff. tQ ~;).
You use Samsung Galaxy S?
Yes I decided to use The Jongle for some mind provocation :p
Hello Mr. Renny 🙂
Ho HO Ho you’ve spotted me! hahahahaha I will make sure my elf make you a special Christmas gift this year! Perhaps we should ride the polar express together! Ho Ho HO
You’ve got a very nice photos from your Nokia phone, please keep your phone hahaha 😀 (btw, I think Nokia N8 are one sexy phone)
@Lulu LOL oh you just notice? It’s really me in there! hahahahah few people ask me if that was me, well it was. My wife use the apps from her Android phone to do that hehehehe
>as I saw your Gravatar
and i wasnt aware , until i zoomed it yesterday , what a surprize,
Netster definitely looks more handsome Santa than any other Santa 🙂
So I guess I should stay happy with my Nokia N8 after all then 🙂
Btw: Thanks for the visit and nice comment – of course I was thinking of you when saying: “a certain white-bearded, weight-challenged superstar of the Nordic Arctic north” 😆 It occur to me as soon as I saw your Gravatar
According to your blog , you change phone’s every year 🙂
I dont demand much from a phone device, just talk and sms is enough )
Yes, look like it hahahahah but this one is belong to my wife. I just help myself to play around with it.
I am checking out
1) Android phones from HTC, Motorola and Samsung
2) Windows 7 Phone from Samsung or HTC
3) iPhone
4) iPad
for my next year “want list” and
5) 42 inches or 52inches LED display.
incase I opt for #5 (very likely) than 1-4 I’ll not be getting it.
so you can “double-play” now with every new device? when you change and when she changes phone 🙂
Awesome right! hahahaha
From Nokia I switch to Sony Ericsson than to BlackBerry and next one I am not sure yet… would it be iOS or Android? heheheh
I am waiting for the price drop because the government announced they cut the tax for gadget for 40% for 2011 and so I am very hopeful that it would be cheap!
Next year, getting LV bag here would be cheap too! Just as if we were visiting Paris for branded goods.
2010 I wanted to have a mibile review on my blog didn’t really make it but I am guessing next year I would be able to do so… I am going to start from some where… a friend who work at the mobile shop might be able to help me with that.
let’s see how 2011 😀
and imagine if you use another kind of OS ? ) How it’s on Mac?
Most likely when you’re using Linux (Ubuntu or anything else) then you are on your own and relying on community experience to find all the tricks to make it,
but sometimes it happens that it will just work, without much problems, sometimes even better than with windows, if you’re lucky 🙂
Yes, it would be pain in the neck for those not using Windows system. KIES doesn’t work on Mac at all.
I expect more from Samsung, they are going 10 or more millions of the phone and customer service should be their priority now.
I am glad that the upgrade of my phone went well and the phone productivity increases after the upgrade. Multitasking are awesome, many features redesign or add colour and wow.. I got to do another post of the features!
