Mandarin Orange, abundance healths, loves and Prosperity.

Season’s greetings and sincere wishes for a bright and happy New Year! 献上节日的问候与祝福, 愿你拥有一个充满生机和欢乐的新年。

Chinese believe in mandarin orange. The pronunciation in Cantonese will translate into what we known has “Gold”. Hope this season you do have lot of Chinese Orange display on your table for good luck and prosperous year a head. Good fortune, great result…

Red & Prosperity

Ang Pao – Chinese Red Packets

Visiting and “Ang Pao” (Red Packet with cash) was a norm in Chinese community. This day young children will get abundance of loves and wealth from their parents and grandparents in the hope that future children would return the good deed when their parent aged. For poor Chinese community they do accept red packet with red color paper in it as a symbol of appreciation and understanding. In Malaysia other ethic example “Malay” has also adopt this tradition by giving “Green Packet” to children. Myth: unmarried men or women should not give “Ang Pao” to any one… you will have bad luck finding your match and worse still not getting married… forever! (Umm that’s explain why I am still not married)

Red brings good luck and happiness this is the tradition and believes. Whenever a big celebration example wedding, moving in new home, birthday and etc red color would be the color of choice. Chinese uses only red ink on tomb stone. For whatever reasons please do not use red ink to write especially their name.

Music

Chinese, likes many ethnic has their own identity display through way of life, cloth, foods and music! I like to dedicate you a very beautiful Chinese new year song for this beautiful season! The original song was sang by Kelly Chan but was recomposed to reflex Chinese identity and tradition.

New Year

This is the only days of the year where Chinese visit each other to feel the bonding again. Chinese work really hard, they travel to cities looking for fortune, leaving their families and friends behind was the only option. Every New Year, Chinese would pay special attention to their fortune & wealth – buying new cloth, shoes, and giving “Ang Pao” to their parents to shows their success & appreciation.

In Malaysia, Chinese welcome every one to visit their home during Chinese New Year. Since this was a practices ever since the independence of Malaysia. All ethnic and races would visit each others during Hari Raya, Gawai, Christmas, Deepavali (Diwali) wedding, and etc… we serve soft drink, cakes and cookies, you might find alcohol drinks during open house. (No alcohol drinks for Hari Raya)

You love the cookies & tidbit above? 🙂 I like to take this opportunity to say Hi and wishing a Happy Chinese New Year to the following bloggers.
